Local Charity Marks 'Volunteers Week' By Calling for New Recruits

VolunteersAs the 26th Annual National Volunteers’ Week approaches on 1 June, East Sheen based charity Missing People is calling for volunteers to help vulnerable missing people and their families.

Missing People offers a lifeline to the 250,000 people who run away and go missing each year. For those left behind, they search and provide specialised support to end the heartache and confusion. Missing People currently have 60 volunteers and hope to double that number.

Chloë Swinton, Services Volunteer Leader at Missing People, said: We are caring, highly skilled staff and volunteers working around the clock alongside our partners across the UK.

“Sadly one in four desperate calls for help cannot currently be answered. By volunteering we can provide a lifeline to every single caller.”

As well as receiving travel expenses, training and full support, volunteers can expect to meet new people and develop new skills by answering calls on the charity’s national helplines and in various other roles. A recent volunteering survey at the charity showed that 97 percent of volunteers said they found volunteering at Missing People a rewarding experience.

Emily, a volunteer on the charity’s Runaway Helpline, said: “Volunteering gave me confidence and opened up a whole new world for me. When I put my head on the pillow at night, I know that, through what I contributed, someone’s child sleeps more safely and peacefully.”

If you are interested in volunteering, Missing People has organised an open day in their office on Tuesday 8 June between 4-7pm. For full information and to download application forms, go to www.missingpeople.org.uk/volunteer or call Chloe on 020 8392 4550
